Is hepatic artery thrombosis after liver transplantation really a surgical complication?

چکیده
T HE COM PLICA nON of hepatic arterial thrombosis (HAT) leads to an [!lmost universally fatal outcome without retransplantation. 1•4 Although this problem occurs in both adults and children, its incidence is significantly higher in the pediatric population, where it remains one of the major causes of mortality and retransplantationY Some of the known causes of HAT after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) are purely technical. These include clamp traction on the recipient hepatic artery (HA), faulty placement of anastomotic sutures, and the inappropriate angulation of the donor HA or anastomotic site. 2•5 Certain non-technical factors have been reported to predispose to HAT after OL T.1.1,6 In this analysis, these factors were investigated in 13 patients who sustained HAT either during or after OL T and who underwent an attempt at secondary arterial reconstruction.

Acute paranoid psychosis as sole clinical presentation of hepatic artery thrombosis after living donor liver transplantation
BACKGROUND Hepatic artery thrombosis is a devastating complication after orthotopic liver transplantation often requiring revascularization or re-transplantation. It is associated with considerably increased morbidity and mortality. Acute cognitive dysfunction such as delirium or acute psychosis may occur after major surgery and may be associated with the advent of surgical complications. CAS...

BACKGROUND Hepatic artery thrombosis (HAT) is a serious complication after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and remains a significant cause of graft loss. HAT following OLT has been reported in 3% to 9% of patients. Among the surgical factors considered to be associated with HAT, arterial reconstruction might be the most important. The goal of this study was to compare the incidence of HA...

Hepatic artery thrombosis is a dreadful complication of orthotopic liver transplantation. It should be suspected in cases of fulminant liver failure, delayed bile leak, or intermittent sepsis of unknown cause after liver transplantation. Accurate diagnosis is assisted by ultrasound and computerized tomography scans, but usually requires arteriography. Prompt retransplantation is required in mos...

THROMBOSIS OF the hepatic artery (HAT) continues to be a serious complication following orthotopic liver transplantation (OL Tx). Several studies have failed to identify possible risk factors that may be related to thrombosis of the hepatic artery. Nonetheless. a clear definition of the responsible factors is necessary to formulate guidelines and protocols for the prevention and management of t...

Hepatic artery thrombosis (HAT) is the most common vascular complication of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and constitutes a potential emergency during the postoperative period. Surgical revascularization and retransplantation are the treatments of choice for this condition. The aim of this report is to present long-term follow-up on survival and graft function of three patients with pa...
